These are demos of new original songs

I have written over 15 original songs in the past two months, after 'cutting my teeth' singing

popular duets/covers for just over a year (see below in 'duets & covers' section).

 

I use a gaming mic resting on two books (don't ask). 

All the songs are based on different repeating piano loops sourced on Tik Tok.

​The songs are an eclectic mix: Indie Folk-Pop, Rap, Pop-Noir, Alt-Pop, Blues, Irish Ballad etc... 

Influences re genre type: Lana Del Rey, Billie Eillish, Olivia Rodrigo,

Lilly Allen, Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams etc

Randomly a couple of months ago I took up a Tik Tok challenge to write a song on a piano loop of about 30 secs. I realised if I duplicated it I might be able to write a longer piece...

The first song is 'Pick up the Phone.' I wrote the lyrics and melody within two hours.

​I then found I had lyrics coming out of my ears. I can generally write a song in a day or two.

These are demos and would no doubt be modified/produced further if in studio.

But because of the basic loops and equipment they have raw 'live' delivery and authenticity.

(Often I record the best version on the first take)

 

Of course there's alot of honesty and vulnerability in the lyrics. Song-writing is definitely exposing.

I now finally understand that singer songwriter phenomenon. Songs are not really about 'specific' people. They may have a 'starting point' in real time but they quickly take on their own identity;

ie) imaginative threads that deliver a (hopefully relatable) storyline.  

 

Musical Background:

I got a guitar age 10 for my birthday and was cast as Pharoah in 'Joseph' in a school production

coz' of my Alto ish voice (was cross coz I wanted to be Joseph!).

Played cello to grade VI, piano, recorders etc

I don't (yet) show face when I sing (following the same principle as the TV Show The Voice)
